Conservation Clubs

How much can you save??

What are these Conservation Clubs?

S.A.V.E., AERO, and Saturn Resource Management, Inc, a Helena-based energy conservation consulting and publishing business, are joining forces to create Neighborhood Conservation Clubs. Groups of 5-10 households will form in neighborhoods throughout Helena and the surrounding area. These groups will be a force for conservation in their neighborhoods. We will provide each group with a "curriculum," or a series of resource materials, case studies, monthly activities and challenges that will guide participants in saving energy and water in their home, business, school, office, or transportation choices.

You probably have a variety of reasons for participating in the Neighborhood Conservation Clubs. Everybody can agree that saving energy makes good economic sense, especially as we witness natural gas, electricity and gasoline prices rise. Another big motivator might be climate change. The scientific evidence undeniably points to our energy consumption habits as the primary cause of global climate change. The NCCs will give folks tools and resources to do their part to reduce Helena's "carbon footprint". Or maybe you're concerned about continuing drought conditions (forecasted to worsen) and think it is imperative that we learn how to be more frugal water users?

Why should I join a club to conserve?

There are several reasons for doing this in a small-group or club format. First of all, it's more fun. We believe that by creating community around these issues, it will be easier and more fun to get those home improvement projects done that we've all had on our to-do lists for ages. By working with our neighbors we'll be able to take advantage of each other's expertise, tools and knowledge. Groups also let us hold each other accountable. Frankly, a little peer pressure and a little friendly competition between clubs will go a long way towards helping all of us be more efficient energy users. Ultimately our objective with this project is two-part: 1) Help Helena residents to significantly cut their energy and water consumption, and 2) build stronger neighborhoods and community throughout the city.
