Plastic Recycling

The only opportunity for residents of Helena to recycle plastic bottles is through our collection drives held the second full weekend, every other month. During these drives, we work with community partners to make it possible for you to recycle plastic that would otherwise be sent to a landfill. To find out more about recycling plastic, download our plastic recycling information sheet.

SAVE will also be collecting aluminum cans at the community plastics drive. Feel free to bring in your empty cans and help directly support the continued success of our events.

Aluminum/Plastics Drive Dates:

We will be collecting plastics on March 14-17th.

Volunteer as a greeter!

As always, we need volunteers for collection drives to be a success! Volunteers greet community members and help answer questions or sort their plastics. It's easy to do and a great way to get involved in community recycling. Learn more about on our volunteer page, or call us at 406-449-6008. Click here for the plastics recycling volunteer guide. Our volunteers make these events possible, thank you for your interest!

Huge Development in Plastics Recycling for Helena!

Proposal for Permanent Plastics Recycling Program Submitted to the City!

SAVE has been hard at work over the years working to establish a permanent program in Helena that allows the community access to plastic recycling on a consistent basis. It’s been a long time and a lot of long hours but I’m happy to say that a proposal has been submitted to the City of Helena that would establish a permanent plastics program at the Transfer Station in, addition to other improvements. This isn’t a guarantee but everything seems to be moving in a very positive direction thanks in large part to the capacity of the public and private partnerships being established through SAVE's bi-monthly plastic collections over the last few years.

SAVE would like to recognize our partners over the years that have helped us along in the fight for expanded recycling services in Helena; so a big thanks is in order for our partners including Tri-County Disposal, City of Helena, Pacific Steel & Recycling, General Services of the State of Montana, the Montana Beverage Association, A-1 Rentals, Carroll College, and to all of our volunteers for making this a possibility!
